Aleksandr Kharitonov

1932–1993

"MY ART IS BASED ON THREE PILLARS: BYZANTINE ICONOGRAPHY, OLD RUSSIAN ICONOGRAPHY AND CHURCH EMBROIDERY WITH PRECIOUS STONES, PEARLS AND BEADING. MY TEACHERS WERE DOSTOEVSKY, GOGOL, SAVRASOV, FLORENSKY AND MOZART."

Alexander Kharitonov was a painter, who participated in the movement called the "Other art" from 1958 and presented his works in the City Committee of Graphics in Moscow. Kharitonov, in his extraordinary manner, integrated the "Naive art" tradition with the features of pointillist painting. The artist's works are in the collections of the Tretyakov Gallery, the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, the Zimmerli Museum of Rutgers University (New Bruwnswick, New Jersey, USA) and other public and private collections.
