Eduard Gorokhovsky

1929–2004

"NOW I KNOW FOR SURE THAT THERE IS NO NEED TO PLACE A PAINTING INTO THE GREAT IDEAS OF THE LIGHT AND THE DARK. I LEAVE THEM BEHIND MY STUDIO, SEPARATING ALL LIFELIKE FROM MY WORK. A PAINTING FOR ME IS A PLASTIC OBJECT. MY CARE IS A JOB OF A MASTER-ARTISAN: TO ACCOMPLISH ONE SET GOAL USING MY OWN METHOD ACCORDING TO MY AESTHETIC VIEWS."

Eduard was a painter, pioneer of the Moscow Conceptualism, founder of the “photo-based art” movement in Russia. He was the first who used the photography imagery in graphics and painting. Starting from 1974, Gorokhovsky participated in official and semi-official Soviet and foreign exhibitions. From 1991 the majority of time the artist lived in Germany. More than 200 solo and museum exhibits were held starting from 1967. Eduard Gorohovsky’s works are in collections of the Tretyakov Gallery, the Pushkin Museum, The Russian Museum; museums of Austria, Germany and the United States.
