Evgeny Rukhin

1943–1976

"SINCE I AM OPTIMISTIC BY NATURE, I AM SURE THAT ONCE OUR WORKS WILL BE WIDELY DISPLAYED IN RUSSIA."

Evgeny Rukhin was an artist, who was displayed in Leningrad youth clubs from the mid-1960s. In 1966 his first solo exhibition was held in New York. The artist was one of the initiators of the Bulldozer Exhibition and of the Izmailovo Exhibition in Moscow in 1974. The main subject of Rukhin’s art is the texture of the wastes of civilization, objects, having been discarded in a junkyard and having lost its utility. His works started a new cycle in art world, prior to the Pop-art movement. Dozens of exhibitions of the author were held after his death in Europe, the US, Japan and Israel, and also his solo exhibit took place in 1996 in Saint Petersburg.
