Grisha Bruskin

born 1945

«TO SOME EXTENT, MY WHOLE ARTISTIC JOURNEY IS THE INSISTENCE ON FREEDOM.»

Grisha Bruskin is an artist, essayist. In Soviet Union Bruskin’s works could not be displayed since his exhibitions prohibited by government orders. Moscow Auction house Sotheby’s, held in 1988, made Grisha Bruskin famous by selling his work named "Fundamental Lexicon". Bruskin uses allegories, fulfilling them with symbols of various religions and mystical teachings of the Ancient East, Middle Age Christianity and etc. The world for him is a book, requiring to be read and decoded.
Currently, the artist lives and works in the USA, and his pieces of art are stored in collections of the Tretyakov Gallery, Russian Museum, Pushkin Museum, and also in both public and private collections of Europe and the United States.
