Oscar Rabin

1928–2018

"THE TIME BROUGHT ALL OF US TOGETHER. THE ARTISTS WHICH COULD HAVE NOT EXISTED BEFORE, APPEARED WITH “THAW”. THE POSSIBILITY OF COMMUNICATION ITSELF WAS INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT FOR US. I REMEMBER CONSTANT PASSIONATE DISCUSSIONS ABOUT AVANT-GUARD AND MODERN ART. IT WAS THE DISCOVERY OF A NEW WORLD AND THE COMMON MARCH TOWARDS FREEDOM."

Oscar Rubin was a painter who participated in numerous Moscow art exhibitions, starting from the late 1050s. After the series of unofficial and so-called apartment exhibitions, the artist initiated the worldwide famous Bulldozer Exhibition and the Ismailovo Exhibition. A criminal proceeding against was initiated against Rabin on the charge of social parasitism, and the painter was arrested. In 1979 Oscar Rabin was deprived of the Soviet citizenship, and since then lived and worked in Paris.

Now, the artists works are in permanent collections of Russia, France, Germany and the United States.
