Semyon Faibisovich

born 1949

"I CAPTURED THE RESIDUAL VISION, BLIND SPOTS IN THE EYE. DURING THIS PERIOD, MY PAINTINGS FREQUENTLY LOOKED TOTALLY ABSTRACT, THE REAL WORLD TRACES ON THE SCREEN OF THE CLOSED EYES CHANGE, TRANSFORM AND, FINALLY, DISAPPEAR. IT LOOKS LIKE ABSTRACTION BUT ACTUALLY IT IS A REALISM – WHAT YOU SEE AS REAL."

Semyon Faibisovich is an artist of the photorealism movement. The main subject of his art became the everyday life, the mundanity of it. Through this category a person conveys the spirit and the atmosphere of the epoch. In the beginning of the Perestroika epoch, his works were noticed by the American gallerists, so that soon he gained popularity in the West. In 1998 Semyon Faibisovich starting a writing career, published several books. The artists still displayed photos, videos, installations. When returning to the painting art, Faibisovich started experimenting with different techniques, based on photographs he made creating the hyper realistic model of the contemporary world.
