Natalia Severtsova

1901–1970

"PAINTING IS MY ESSENTIAL SPIRITUAL NECESSITY."  


 Natalya Severtsova was a painter, whose husband was an outstanding philosopher and philologist Alexander Gabrichevsky. From the mid-1950s Severtsova stated displaying her works and participating in group exhibitions. The artist started working in the Naive style of art that roots in the tradition of Russian Lubok. Severtsova worked also with natural materials such as wooden roots, in which she saw motion of human forms, human faces and muzzles. She combines natural and artistic features. Natalya Severtsova’s art belongs to the list of the most striking phenomena of Russian art of the 20th century.
