Oleg Tselkov

1934–2021

"I WAS THE FIRST WHO PULLED DOWN FACE FROM THE FACE "IN HIS IMAGE AND ACCORDING TO HIS LIKENESS" AND SAW — THE FACE. I WAS SHOCKED BEYOND MEASURE. I PAINTED SOMEWHAT LIKE A PORTRAIT — NOT OF A SPECIFIC OBJECT, BUT A UNIVERSAL PORTRAIT OF EVERYONE EXPRESSED IN ONE FACE — EXTREMELY FAMILIAR FACE. IMMEDIATELY I UNDERSTOOD THAT MY ROAD IS INDICATED TO ME."

Oleg Tselkov is an artist, whose first solo exhibition took place in 1965 in the I. V. Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy. Starting from the 1970s his artworks, shipped from the USSR, were displayed in Europe. In 1977 Tselkov left Soviet Union and then started living in Paris. In 2004 the artist’s anniversary solo exhibitions were held in the Tretyakov Gallery and in the Russian Museum. Later, in 2005 Oleg Tselkov became the only living abroad artist who received the Russian prestigious "Triumph" award.
