I PAINT NON-PORTRAITS. THE DORMITION ICONS THAT VISUALIZE THE DEATH OF MADONNA DEPICT JESUS ALWAYS HOLDING HER SOUL IN THE IMAGE OF A LITTLE GIRL. OVER THAT IMAGE ONE COULD FEEL, WHAT ACTUALLY IS THE “CHILD”. THE SOUL IS IMAGINED AS THE CHILD.

Tanya Raush graduated from the Repin Art Academy and researched the icon painting there. The artist participated in restoration of the partly lost Baroque painting in the Church of Saint John the Baptist at Chesme Palace. 20 years ago Tanya found the plot that later became a base for her artistic approach — a child stuck still in time and space. Many of her works are painted from the old archive photos.
