Vlad Kulkov

born 1986

I REALIZED I WOULD BECOME AN ARTIST AT THE TIME THAT REMAINED AS VAGUE MEMORIES, SUCH AS LIGHTING OR MOVING THROUGH SOME LANDSCAPES: THAN I INTUITIVELY UNDERSTOOD THAT THERE’S A SPHERE THAT STORES A HORRIFYING MYSTERY. POETRY ALWAYS HAUNTED ME, SOMETHING SIMILAR TO EDGAR POE'S, BUT ONCE I FELT THAT I COULD STAY WORLDLESS. SINCE THEN I DON’T WRITE, BUT CALL ON IMAGES.

Vlad Kulkov is an abstract expressionist who’s been participating in group art projects since 2006 in Russia and abroad and in solo exhibitions since 2008. The artist creates“whirlwinds” on the transparent background, applying drawings on top, what makes them abstract and biomorphic. In 2013 Vlad entered the list of 115 most prominent contemporary artists of more than 40 countries (research by the London publishing house Phaidon Press). Also in 2016 the artist entered the top-10 list of the most perspective and famous Russian artists (The Art Newspaper Russia). Vlad Kulkov’s artworks are in collections of the Tretyakov gallery, the Russian museum and the Moscow Museum of Modern Art.
