AZ Museum, 20-22, 2nd Tverskaya-Yamskaya
Anatoly Zverev created this series of illustrations in 1961 on the request of the famous choreographer and ballet master Alexander Rumnev. The drawings have been stored in the Russian State Archive of Literature and Art. In 2013, the AZ Publishing project issued the book called “Anatoly Zverev Illustrations of Fairy Tales By H.C. Andersen” with the new Zverev illustrations. The Zverev illustrations that have never been published before became the significant event in the history of the Russian book design. The album received a diploma for the best book design at the International Book Fair NON/FICTION in 2013.
The exposition "Andersen’s fairy tales" was unfolded on the three floors of the AZ Museum and became a magic adventure – following the flying lines of the Zverev’s drawings, visitors will get in the undersea world of the Mermaid and the endless enfilade of the Chinese Emperor’s Palace, listening to the mysterious murmur of the sea and the voice of the nightingale. The images by Anatoly Zverev inspired other modern artists — in the exhibition space the variety of Zverev’s drawing was complemented by the installations by Katya Philippova, Andrey Bartenyev, Tatiana Badanina and Rudolf Serazhetdinov. The New Film by Zoya Apostolskaya, created specially for the exhibition, tells about the coincides in the life and adventures of Anatoly Zverev.
Traditionally, the AZ Museum addresses this project to a family and children audience. During the New Year holidays and throughout the exhibition, special kids holiday programs and tours will be held. Also, the project was accompanied by music and poetry evenings, a series of lectures carried out by Lola Zvonareva and Lidia Kudryavtseva – the leading experts on H.C. Andersen oeuvre and on the history of the book illustration.
