Airy Paintings. Master class

Zverev in his landscapes could convey airy effects using unique techniques. He painted them by wet paper, pouring talc powder or salt. That is how the nature was filled with air, fog or sultriness.

We will need:

  • Watercolor paper
  • Watercolors
  • Brushes
  • Water
  • Talc powder

1. Plan a drawing of your landscape using a pencil.

2. Dampen the paper with water.

3. Apply watercolors using a brush, trying to paint with clear shades of colors. Observe, how the colors intermix on the paper. Use the top of your brush to paint trees, branches. Notice how the image is becoming blurred like in the rain or in a fog.

4. Powder the image with the talc and salt while the paper is still dump.

5. Paint right on a top of the layer of talc and salt, clarifying details and composition. Don’t be afraid to mix colors with powder or salt!

5. Wait till it dries off.

6. Then, swipe the talc and salt using a dry brush.

7. Contemplate your airy landscape! Morning sunrise? Day mist? Or evening fog?
